Of course not. Most of us made multiples so we could wash them, at least. And it's not like we wore them even when sleeping.

I had wondered about when sleeping if you had special sleeping robes...

Again, I've never made a habit of asking others about their sleeping practices, but...

Is it really necessary for you to know?

No, it's not important I was just curious in general.

Yes, I suppose you did. I slept rather soundly that night, but that is not always the case. I just happened to be fortunate in that particular instance.

Really? Is it having someone to watch your back that allows you to sleep deeper?

Hmmm, mayhap that is what did it. I suppose I am a much lighter sleeper when I'm alone.

[It's wrong of him to wonder if it was in part due to the warmth of others at her side, a thought that lasts only for a few moments, but that makes him feel guilty for thinking it all the same.]

I suppose living the way you do would condition one to be a light sleeper. I am told I don't do it often enough, and I've worked through the night many times... but it hasn't had any ill effects.

Is sleep as necessary for you as it is for us? I mean, I know you don't have to eat as often.

We need rest and nourishment all the same, even if not as frequently. Sleep is still rest for the mind that cannot well be replaced by anything else -- believe me, more than a few scholars have tried in the past.

[And probably a few Sharlayan ones have, too, for that matter. Ah, they do take after their predecessors sometimes... for better or for worse.]

I've seen what Sharlayan will do to food so trying to go without sleep isn't a surprise.

At least I can say we were not quite as insatiable as the Sharlayans are... generally speaking. I'm sure there were one or two of us who pushed the envelope a little too far, even so.

[Like Athena. Though it would take a prodigious amount of effort to be worse about "I did it for science" than Athena.]

I'll admit, I think I'm beginning to understand what people mean when they say I dedicated myself too wholly to my duty at the detriment of all else -- sleep, for example. But still... I find I know not what to do with myself without that duty to uphold.

It only took being spirited away to another world, hmm? Though I can understand, that's why I'm itching to set out on an adventure.

It feels like it isn't my place to ask, but you already know I would love more than anything to accompany you, even just once. I still care about my people, and my duty... but I have been given the chance to rethink how I act upon it. Perspectives I never even considered until it was far too late.

Hmm? I thought Erichthonios would have brought up you traveling with me since he's been helping me prepare everything.

'Tis a shame it's too late, but they say better late than never.

Of course he did. I was simply reiterating my feelings about it, that's all. It's been a long time since I was able to even have feelings like this... perhaps that's the exciting part in itself for me.
