A memememememme

your character(s) wake up in a very cozy room with a single coffee table, two chairs, a jug of fresh water, two empty glasses, and snacks. on the counter, there will be a letter waiting for them that reads:

Dear [character],

Welcome to our little session of Word Association. We feel it's important to our research to understand the mind of the Chosen. Please participate in our one hour excerise, and enjoy the refreshments.

Sincerely,

[UNREADABLE SCRIBBLES]

HOW TO PLAY:

⭐️ make a top-level with your characters with a word

⭐️ other characters comment to your character with a word that associates with them

⭐️ go back and forth until, idk, someone decides they want to know more in depth of why the other choose the word.

ALTERNATE VERSION ON HOW TO PLAY:

— too lazy or too exhausted for an action thread? don't worry, I gotchu!!

in this version, your character is now in a chat room with one another person. and in order for them to log out, they must do this one hour session of Word Association.

🌟 make a top-level of your character's username and with a word

🌟 other characters comment to your character with a word that associates with them

🌟 go back and forth until, idk, someone decides they want to know more in depth of why the other choose the word.

NOTE; these threads do not count as game-canon nor as in AC

p.s. pro tip that I've learned: for your inbox to not overflow with other people's comments, go to comments > don't email. by selecting this, you will not get any tags from others except your own.💗

Consider that part of the joke, then.

Game.
endcaller: (Was it worth it?)

Oh dear! You have me at a loss.

I am not familiar with that word.

You don't know what a pencil is??
endcaller: (Death without pain)

[personal profile] endcaller 2024-10-28 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I've not heard the term.

What is it?

It's a writing equipment! Like a pen? Do you know what that is?

A pencil is made of a pigment core and usually wrapped with wood, otherwise your hands will keep getting dirty from it. It's different from your usual pen and ink, though, because you write by scratching the paper with the graphite to leave a residue trail.

It's usually graphite, which is black, but I've seen coloured ones!!

Now if you don't know about pens either, this will be hard...

I don't but it sounds like you are referring to a stylus or quill of sorts.

[personal profile] skelters 2024-10-28 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
A quill is when you use a feather, right?
endcaller: (Mankind has been on a bad trip)

[personal profile] endcaller 2024-10-28 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Correct! A feather dipped in ink.

Though writing by hand was something of a lost art in my day.

[personal profile] skelters 2024-10-28 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Why is that?
endcaller: (◇ De omnibus dubitandum)

[personal profile] endcaller 2024-10-28 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you know.

Tomestones.

Aetherical recordings on Record Nodes.

We had an extensive written language, of course! But why write by hand when technology was so much more convenient?

[personal profile] skelters 2024-10-28 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, well ... That would make sense for your world, I suppose.

That sounds really interesting! I'd love to hear more about these tomestones, if you don't mind! :-)
endcaller: (Now I am an arsonist seven miles high)

[personal profile] endcaller 2024-10-28 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
We recorded what we wished to on our tomestones.

Are you familiar the concept of a solid-state data archive?
skelters: (brokiloen) (pic#16272842)

[personal profile] skelters 2024-10-28 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, sort of! It's been a while!

[ he's not gonna elaborate ... ]
endcaller: (Size doesn't matter. Velocity does.)

[personal profile] endcaller 2024-10-29 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Our tomestones are solid-state data archives containing a vast amount of information from poetry to heliometry. A single library of books could hardly contain the data held within a single tomestone...

Alas, for all of our technological prowess our tomestones are useless now. So there is something to be said for the quill, perhaps.

[personal profile] skelters 2024-10-29 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
What happened to them?
endcaller: (So this dyslexic guy walks into a bra...)

[personal profile] endcaller 2024-10-31 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you know.

Time.

The world moved on and the methods of accessing the data on the tomestones was lost. They're little more than collector's items now.

Pity, that.
