There are laws of restriction on how old someone must be to contribute to certain types of work. Not where I am from, of course.

I expect it's something to do with family. Birthdays are celebrated as a special event when it isn't. People seem to take a personal affront that they don't have a day to pin a person to in order to shower them with gifts. Or forget and need to beg some wasteful forgiveness.

I don't know what it is that makes you see yourself in such a light... and personally, I don't think that it's true. But for what it's worth, even the most honest man has no guarantee his loyalty will be returned. In my experience, it is rare for a marriage to truly uphold these values.
