Perhaps so, but it is a good place to start. Those who are born as human begin with certain experiences that belong to humanity alone.

In my home, humans and non-humans largely view one another with fear and derision. It places children of their rare unions in...unique positions, regardless of where they are raised.

Ones that may make it difficult to say whether that connection has been shed, was ever truly there, and so on and so forth.

If it helps, even within our most pure-blooded, our patriarch would consider us defects and failures if we did not meet his standards.

Such standards are arbitrary. They exist not to understand but to undermine.

But I grasp that . . . on a personal level, it is a difficult thing to reckon with.
