There was still blood oozing from the wounds that went to his ribs, which happened to be broken, hence the difficulty breathing. Already, significant bruising was setting in on his chest. There were matching twin wounds on his back with the same look aside from being larger, making it clear that they were exit wounds. However, his lungs and heart - while damaged - were intact, healed from the mortal part of the injury.
One thing was for certain: he had died. He just wasn't dead now.]
Perhaps some strong alcohol to clean the wounds out with and then we can bandage them. It seems they will bleed for some time yet.
